Everest Base Camp Tour - Tea House Trek
Tour from £1,850.00 per person
For those of you with a huge sense of adventure, Sanya Nepal Travel are now offering the opportunity to experience an 18 day Tea House Trek to Everest Base Camp. This strenuous grade trek will take you to altitudes in excess of 17,000 feet and should only be undertaken by those of a satisfactory fitness level.
A Tea House Trek is a trek where no extra gear is carried and local lodges are used throughout for both eating and sleeping. There will be one guide and one porter assigned to every two clients and your guide will pay for all accommodation and food.
A trekking guide is usually referred to as a Sirdar and he can usually speak and understand English. However his knowledge of the language is often basic, so there will be limitations with the information he is able to provide.
Preparation for any trek is vitally important. You have to be physically fit for trekking in Nepal, as you will be walking on average for between 5-7 hours on a daily basis, along uneven and very steep, uphill and downhill routes. We suggest that you undertake a minimum of 6 months physical training prior to your trek if you do not exercise regularly. It is also suggested that you prepare mentally for any planned trek, by reading up on as much information as possible, especially regarding your planned routing.
Treks in Nepal are graded as per the altitude you reach and not on the hours of walking or conditions of the route chosen. They are graded as follows:
| Grade | Maximum Altitude |
|---|---|
| Easy | 10,000 ft |
| Medium | 10,000 - 14,000 ft |
| Strenuous | 14,000 ft + |
When undertaking a Tea House Trek we recommend that you travel fairly lightly, with a backpack carrying essentials being sufficient. We consider the following to be the most important items needed for a Tea House Trek:
- Trek boots, which should be well broken in and a good supply of cotton socks
- A water bottle with a minimum capacity of 1.5 litres
- A powerful flash light with spare batteries and bulbs
- A jumper and water-proof clothing
- A first aid kit
- A sleeping bag and mattress
Altitude sickness is the greatest hazard on any trek, which goes beyond 10000 feet. Physical fitness is no barrier for altitude sickness and it can affect any person of any age. The symptoms come in three stages starting with a mild headache; followed by nausea, sleeplessness and a severe headache; then mental disorientation.
To help with the prevention of altitude sickness, seek medication advice from your doctor before travelling and climb slowly resting at regular intervals. At the first sign of any symptoms slowly climb down and attempt to continue the following day.
