Learn to Cook Chinese Food, Home Stay Experience or 5 star Hotel, Explore Sichuan Sichuan Cookery and Home Stay

An exciting hands on experience where you will learn all about Chinese cooking with an emphasis on the famous Sichuan style.

You will attend a cookery school at the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine and learn about the culture of China’s cuisine. You will cook and then dine on delicious meals such as gongbao chicken, mapo dufo, twice cooked pork, fish flavour egg plant and the most traditional of all dishes – hot pot. We are determined to also show you local markets and an interesting Cuisine Museum.

Then if you wish to, you will home stay with a local family (this is Jun’s sisters family, Jun started Sanya China Travel with Kevin in 2005) a genuine experience of country life in China. Now that you have your new cooking skills behind you – join the family as they prepare dinner!

Onwards to Leshan and the Giant Buddha before reaching Emeishan. In the mountains see the Golden Buddha at Golden summit. Heading back to Chengdu take in a local market and see some local food producers before your final cookery lesson in the traditional art of hotpot. A sumptuous dinner brings your culinary experience to a fine end.

Day 1

Arrive in Chengdu City and settle in your chosen Hotel.

Day 2

Today you will visit the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine and have an introduction to China’s cuisine culture.

Day 3

Cookery school at the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine. Here you will have 2 hours teaching on family cuisine and then a 2 hour session of practical cooking. Later visit the Cuisine Museum in Longquan town.

Day 4/5

Cookery school at Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine. 2 hours teaching and 2 hours practical. Visit the Chilli Bean Paste workshop in Pixian in the early afternoon. Transfer to your Home Stay or Hotel for one night. If you choose to stay at the home stay the family will show you around the village and you will assist them with cooking dinner tonight.

Day 6

Drive to Leshan today and visit the Giant Buddha. Drive to Emeishan.

Day 7

This morning visit the Emeishan mountain and see the famous Golden Buddha at the summit.

Day 8

Visit Wannian temple and drive back to Chengdu.

Day 9

Visit a fascinating local Market in nearby Xipu Town. Then visit a small holding and a fish farm. Return to the city and visit the Spice Trade Wholesale Market at Wukuaishi.

Day 10

Today return to the cookery school at the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine and learn about hotpot making. Later you visit a hotpot restaurant for dinner. Return flight to Beijing (or continue your tour of China).
