The Splendours of Western Bhutan

Kathmandu – Paro – Thimphu – Wangdue Phodrang – Gangtey Tailor-made 11 Days

Tour Highlights

  • Fantastic scenery
  • Traditional culture
  • Magnificent forts and monasteries
  • Untouched villages
  • National Museum

Visit Para and Thimphu and then venture deeper into this enchanting country.

Bhutan is a kingdom that has long maintained its independence and isolation from the outside world and so preserved a fascinating Himalayan culture and tradition. You will discover thickly forested valleys, snow-capped mountains, colourful prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, maroon robed monks and architecture from another age.

Visit Paro and the surprisingly small capital of Thimphu. Then driving east through spectacular mountain passes with splendid views, you visit the massive fortress of Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. The village of Richengang is home to skilled stonemasons and the Dzong here is the winter residence of Bhutan’s spiritual leader.

Then to Gangtey Valley a region barely touched by outsiders. Descend through bamboo fields and wildlife preserves where rare black necked cranes as well as muntjacks, wild boars, black bears and leopards live in protection. Gantey Goemba is an extensive complex which houses some 140 monks and is fronted by a Tibetan style chorten.
