Bhutan Visa Information
Do I need a Visa for Bhutan for a holiday or business visit?
Yes. All UK citizens planning to visit Bhutan require a visa. Visas are only issued when you arrive in the country, either at Paro airport or at Phuentsholing if you are entering the country by road.
Any Exceptions?
No. All foreign visitors (except for Citizens of India who are issued with a 14 day permit upon arrival) will need a visa to enter Bhutan.
Can Sanya Travel organize this application for you?
Yes. You must apply in advance through Sanya Travel and receive approval before you travel to Bhutan. All applications for a tourist visa must be initialised by a Bhutanese tour operator and are approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thimphu.
When your application is submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thimphu, the application is checked to see that you have completely paid for your trip, then they issue an approval letter to the tour operator. With this approval, we can then make a final application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which can take up to 2 weeks to process the visa.
When the application has been cleared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we will be issued with a confirmation number. This number will also be sent to Druk Air. Druk Air will not issue your ticket to Paro until it receives this confirmation number. They will then re-check the visa information when you check in for your flight.
The actual visa endorsement is stamped in your passport when you arrive at one of the two ports of entry into Bhutan. You will receive a visa for the exact duration you are in the country.
When you arrive in Bhutan, the visa officers will be able to produce your application approval form and a visa will be issued on the spot.
What are the Travel Costs?
Current Tourist and Business Visa costs: USD $20.00 which is payable at the entry point.
