Guilin

Guilin is located in the northern reaches of the Guangxi Autonomous Region, on the bank of the Lijiang River. Often described as the 'top landscape in the world', it is renowned for its spectacular scenery, boasting mountains, clear waters, rock formations and caves.

The Lijiang River, between Guilin and Yangshuo is a must for all visitors. Referred to as the 'hundred-mile art gallery', the river undulates through towering green mountains, passes weird and wonderful caves and beautiful rocks.

Elephant Trunk Hill is located where the Lijiang and Taohua rivers meet. The limestone formation gives the impression of an elephant drinking from the river, hence its name.

Reed Flute Cave is 240 metres deep, 500 metre long cavern, lined with stalactites and stalagmites of vastly varying colours, sizes and shapes. There are more than 30 scenic sights in the cavern, such as 'Crystal Palace' and 'Primitive Forests'.

Fubo Hill stands on the western bank of the Lijiang River and is an ideal spot from which to oversee the whole of Guilin.

Qianfo Cave can be found close by and houses Buddhist statues and frescoes dating back to the Tang and Song dynasties.

Yangshuo is a county 65 kilometres from Guilin City and boasts the best scenery in the area. The county has the Lijiang River running through it, lush green mountains, peaks and caves. Of its many scenic spots, some of the most popular are; Shutong Hill, Yangshuo Park and Green Lotus Peak.
