Hong Kong
In 1997 China resumed sovereignty in Hong Kong, establishing the area as one of its Special Administrative Regions. For over 150 years, since the 1st Opium War (1840-2) the British had been in control, with the exception of a period of Japanese rule, during the 2nd World War.
A city with an amazing amount of energy is in a region that is becoming more and more popular by the month. Hong Kong lies on the South East Coast at the mouth of the Pearl River. The sense of culture, unique landscapes and buildings make this beautiful part of the world a must see.
The experience is breathtaking for many travellers with places such as the Victoria peak with its 360 degrees panoramic view of Hong Kong Island to the biggest sitting bronze Buddha statue in the world.
When darkness falls on the island, Hong Kong changes into a spectacular city of lights and colour which can be seen for miles around.
