Hainan Island
Hainan is the southern-most province of China. It's tourism is centred on the Beach City of Sanya.
The territory of Hainan Province consists of Hainan Island, Xisha, Zhongsha, Nansha Islets and their surrounding waters.. The province has an overall land area of 34,000 square kilometres, a sea area of 2,100,000 square kilometres, and a coastline of 1,528 kilometers. At the end of 2007, the population of the province was just short of eight million.
The Island has many natural advantages, including a tropical monsoon and maritime climate (26°C average temperature), Hainan has become the first 'Ecological Province' of China. The well - preserved forests and vegetation provide animals, plants and microrganisms with excellent habitat.
In addition to an emerging tropical high-value agricultural base, Hainan is also a resort island for recreation and tourism. The island is known as the largest 'Tropical Treasure Land' of China. Abundant sunshine and water resources provide excellent conditions for the development of modern high-value agriculture. The unique cultures and customs of the Li and Miao nationalities are existing and to date (March 2008) unspoilt.
Hainan Island has an abundance of green tropical mountains, clear rivers, silver beaches, and hot spring resources. Together these unique qualities lay a solid foundation for the future development of a diversified ecological tourist and recreational filled with regional flavours.
