Haikou
Haikou is situated at the north of the island, it is the capital of Hainan Province it has an estimated population of 900, (2007), therefore by far the largest city on the island.

This city capital is the centre of trade and industry in the island, as well as a popular tourist destination. Its name means 'mouth of the sea', since it nestles along the Nandu river that flows out into the vast South China Sea. Yet, the city is dubbed as the 'coconut city': a visitor would readily see coconut palms lining up the place.

While Hainan Island's resort of Sanya is fast becoming famous for its new found beach culture many of our clients are attracted to the city for its own lovely beaches and ancient sites. The Wugong Temple, Hairui Tomb and the Xiuying Emplacement all serve as reminders of the Haikou's past. Fine restaurants, exciting nightlife, world-class hotels and shopping centres are in abundance.
It is not really difficult to see why Haikou has always been regarded as the great city outside Mainland China by the Chinese since the ancient times. Its monsoon tropical climate and seaside location has provided a lot of natural resources. Its proximity to the mainland makes it a convenient port for trading, way back since the late Qing Dynasty. Because of this, Haikou draws a lot of Chinese people seeking new opportunities; it is, without a doubt, hailed by the Chinese as a land of promise.
If the Chinese wish to have a fresh start they will look at setting up in business in Hainan Island and in particular the capital Haikou. (the government's policy of incentives in this secial economic zone makes it a prime relation option for Chinese Entrepreneurs.

The people here are a mix of different Chinese groups, as a result of this migration. In these modern times, towering buildings are also seen around the metropolis, manufacturing industries are also found, and resorts line up the coastal area, which makes it a highly urbanized city. Step outside the city and you are met with some of China's most beautiful scenery.

The city is indeed a nice mix of contrasting east and west culture, of modern and folk traditions, of fast-paced and relaxing lives, and of business and pleasure. This fact makes the place so uniquely blended, and without a doubt, makes it one of the most interesting places in China and a world-class travel destination for Sanya China Travel.
